Whoopi Goldberg Says Trump Could Be Thrown In Jail For Touching 'Entitlements'

Whoopi Goldberg said former President Donald Trump could be put in jail for restructuring Social Security if re-elected this November.

Goldberg made her comment during a Wednesday broadcast of ABC's The View.

The panel listened to a Monday interview with the former president in which Trump commented on the "bad management" of Social Security.

"There's tremendous amounts of things, a number of things you could do," Trump said.

"Yeah, we could put you in jail," Goldberg quipped as the audience applauded, "for all of your entitlements."

Goldberg asserted Social Security was not an entitlement, adding, "We pay for that."

"Every time you get a check, you paid into ... this is your money," she continued. "Does he have some sort of supporters so obsessed with the idea of beating Democrats that they're not focused on what this man is saying he is planning to do?"

The topic of Social Security benefits was later discussed on Tuesday by The Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro, who drew criticism for his opposition to it.

"Let's be real about this, it's insane that we haven't raised the retirement age in the United States. It's totally crazy," Shapiro said. "If that were the case, Joe Biden should not be running for president."

Shapiro noted Biden's age of 81 years compared to the United States retirement age of 65 when Americans can collect Social Security.

"Joe Biden has technically been eligible for Social Security and Medicare for 16 years, and he wants to continue in office until he is 86, which is 19 years past when he would be eligible for retirement," Shapiro added.

"No one in the United States should be retiring at 65 years old," Shapiro continued. "Frankly, I think retirement itself is a stupid idea, unless you have some sort of health problem."

Shapiro noted the average life expectancy of Americans was 63 years old during the implementation of Social Security under former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

"Today, the average life expectancy is close to 80," he continued. "It's totally insane that you believe that you should work from the time that you are essentially 20, to the time the time that you are 65, which is a 45-year period, pay in, and then you will receive Social Security benefits sufficient to support you and your family ... for like another 20 years."

"That is not fiscally sustainable," Shapiro added.

On Monday, Trump said he was open to cutting Social Security and Medicare during an interview with CNBC's Squawk Box.

Biden responded to Trump's comment shortly after: "Not on my watch."

Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt clarified Trump's comment in a statement to CNN, noting the former president was referring to "cutting waste, not entitlements."

“By unleashing American energy, slashing job-killing regulations, and adopting pro-growth America First tax and trade policies, President Trump will quickly rebuild the greatest economy in history and put Social Security and Medicare on a stronger footing for generations to come,” Leavitt said.
