Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance said the recent meme of referring to him and Republicans largely as "weird" is a projection of his political opponents.
The meme appears to have originated last week after Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who is currently a contender for Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, referred to former President Donald Trump and his newly selected running mate Vance as "weird" during an appearance on MSNBC.
The Minnesota governor has since reused the term and has been joined by other Democratic politicians including Harris, who said "Some of what [Trump] and his running mate are saying is just plain weird" during a Sunday campaign stop.
Online, users have turned Walz's remarks into a meme by sharing images and videos of Democrats and other liberals engaging in odd behavior with the caption: "JD Vance is weird."
Vance commented on the trending meme during a Sunday appearance on Fox News with host Maria Bartiromo.
“I think that it’s a lot of projection, frankly, Maria, from people who want to give transgender hormones to 9-year-old kids and want biological males to play in women’s sports,” Vance said. “Look, I’m a husband, I’m a father, I’m happily married, and I love my life, and I am doing this because I want to be a good public servant who fixes the problems of the Democrats.” #WATCH | JD Vance on being called weird: "I think that it's a lot of projection frankly from people who want to give transgender hormones to 9-year-old kids, and want biological males to play in women's sports" pic.twitter.com/7H1ZyLNtxQ

“They can call me whatever they want to. The middle school taunts don’t bother me,” he continued before turning his criticism towards Harris. “What offends me is what Kamala Harris has done to this country over three and a half years. She’s opened up the American southern border, she cast the deciding vote on things that caused skyrocketing inflation and the affordability crisis."
Vance then commented on Georgia's housing affordability crisis saying, "Kamala Harris shot interest rates through the roof and then welcomed in millions of illegal aliens to compete with Americans for scarce homes."
"I just wish they would stop screwing up the country, and because I don’t think they’re able to do that themselves, President Trump and I are going to beat them in November," Vance said.
Last week, Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe tackled the trending meme and pointed out oddities plaguing liberals branding their political rivals as "weird."
"If the Republican Party is the party of weirdos, the Democrat Party is [the party] of purple-haired freaks," she said.
