Vance Suggests Shapiro's Snub For VP Due To Antisemitism In Democratic Party

Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance commented on Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro's snub for Vice President Kamala Harris' VP pick.

Along with Shapiro, United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz were under consideration for Harris' VP pick.

On Tuesday morning, Harris announced Walz as her running mate.

Vance, who was recently tapped as former President Donald Trump's running mate this November, said Harris "bent the knee to the far left" by snubbing Shapiro for VP during a Tuesday appearance on Fox News.

"We know that the people who were considered were Josh Shapiro, Mark Kelly, and this guy Tim Walz and we know that Josh Shapiro in particular was attacked mercilessly from the far left for being Jewish, for not being anti-Israel enough," Vance said, noting Shapiro had distanced himself from previous statements in recent weeks. "The fact that you're letting antisemites within the Democrat Party drive so much of the conversation and so much of the decision making for Kamala Harris is a really worrying sign."

Vance then questioned whether Harris answered to the American people or "the far left."

"On issue after issue, from opening the border to supporting higher grocery prices on [Americans], she has bent the knee to the far left of the party," he added.

"This decision, selecting Tim Walz, is another sign that she doesn't care what the American people think," Vance continued. "She is only in this to obey the far-left radicals within her own party."

Vance said Shapiro's snub for VP was a "really shameful moment" for Harris.

"The fact that Kamala Harris chose [Walz] shows a really poor judgement and that she doesn't have what it takes to be president of the United States," Vance said. "I don't care ultimately who Kamala Harris selects, but I don't want the vice-presidential nomination of any party being determined by whether you have the right ethnic background. It's profoundly anti-American."

One Harris aid said accusations of antisemitism over Shapiro's snub was "absurd" and "absolutely ridiculous and offensive."

"Josh Shapiro is a fantastic leader, and he was almost chosen," the official told Forward.
