Musk, who has historically voted Democrat, announced in June 2022 that he had cast his first Republican vote for Mayra Flores in the Texas Republican primary. The X owner went on to indicate he may support Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for president.
Last November, Musk said he would not support President Joe Biden's reelection bid despite having voted for him in 2020. Musk also said he would not support then-Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley for president.
However, shorty after Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt during a Butler, Pennsylvania campaign rally last month, Musk endorsed the former president for reelection.

The X owner also congratulated Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, who was tapped as Trump's running mate this November.
"Excellent decision by Donald Trump," Musk wrote.
The Wall Street Journal later reported Musk would commit $45 million monthly to America PAC, a new super PAC in support of Trump's reelection effort.
America PAC is backed by Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale, the Winklevoss twins, along with former United States ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft and her husband Joe, who serves as the chief executive of Alliance Resource Partners.
On Monday, the former president participated in a Kick live stream with prominent streamer Adin Ross. The event garnered over 580,000 viewers during its peak.
During the broadcast, Ross asked Trump to give his impression on a series of prominent figures including Musk, to which the former president referred to the tech mogul as a "genius."
Trump also praised Musk's work with SpaceX.
"He really is. He's a genius," Trump said. "He's also a really good person."
Toward the end of the livestream, Ross gifted the former president a Tesla Cybertruck featuring a Trump-themed wrap.
