Former President Donald Trump has announced he will not seek a fourth presidential run in 2028 if he fails to win the White House this November.
Trump's statement, made during a weekend appearance on Sharyl Attkisson's show, Full Measure, appeared to signify the end of the former president's nearly decade-long political career.
“If you’re not successful this time, do you see yourself running again in four years?” Atkisson asked.
"No, I think that that will be it," Trump responded. "I don't see that at all."
The former president went on to express hope for a successful November election against Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump says he won’t run for office in 2028 if he doesn’t win the election in 2024.

When asked if former Democrats Tulsi Gabbard, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Elon Musk, all of whom have endorsed Trump, would be appointed to his cabinet in a future administration, the former president did not rule out the possibility.
Trump said that Kennedy would be "great on health and the environment," though added it was "too early" for him to announce his cabinet appointments.
The former president said Gabbard, a former Hawaii representative, “has always been good from the standpoint of common sense.”
“She’s like a commonsense person. I’ve watched her for a long time on shows. I’ve known her a little bit, and was a great honor when we got her,” he said. “She’s, you’re right, she was a Democrat and popular, too, in Hawaii. And she will be, she will be terrific.”
Trump then referenced Musk's interest in assisting his administration with a Government Efficiency Commission. “He feels this is the most important election we’ve ever had. And, as you know, he probably has a couple of other things to do. But he’s indicating he might be willing to,” Trump said. “The thing that we talk about more than anything else is exactly that, it’s costs,” he continued. “He’s a big cost cutter. He’s always been very good at it, and I’m good at it.”
RealClearPolitics currently shows Harris with an average 2.2-point lead above Trump.
