Musk Offers To Work With Trump Administration On Government Efficiency Commission

Elon Musk offered to work with former President Donald Trump's future administration on a government commission dedicated to monitoring and eliminating wasteful government spending.

During Trump and Musk's Monday X space, the two discussed inflation plaguing Americans in recent years as Musk noted: “Inflation comes from government overspending, because the checks never bounce when it’s written by the government.”

“So, if the government spends far more than it brings in, that increases the money supply, and if the money supply increases faster than the rate of goods and services, that’s inflation,” he said.

Musk went on to emphasize the need to reduce government spending and suggested Trump implement a Government Efficiency Commission upon taking office to evaluate and eliminate wasteful government spending to alleviate inflation. The X owner then cited roughly $1 trillion being added to the nation's deficit every 100 days.

"The interest payments on the national debt have now exceeded the defense budget," Musk said.

Trump said he agreed with Musk's assessment.

“I think it would be great to just have a Government Efficiency Commission that takes a look at these things and just ensures that the taxpayer money, the taxpayer’s hard-earned money, is spent in a good way,” Musk continued before extending his offer to work with Trump's future administration. “I’d be happy to help out on such a commission if it were formed.”

“I’d love it,” Trump responded. “You’re the greatest cutter.”

Trump and Musk's X space was originally scheduled for 8 p.m. EST, though was delayed for nearly an hour after sustaining a "Distributed Denial-of-Service attack (DDoS)," the platform owner said.

During their conversation, Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign sent a fundraising email to supporters calling Musk a "lackey for team MAGA."

"The two worst people you know are live this evening," the email was headlined in reference to Trump and Musk.

The email then encouraged Harris supporters to donate $25 to her campaign to provide "resources to respond to their lies."

After their X space concluded, Musk said he would be "happy to host Kamala on an 𝕏 space too."

Trump and Musk's X space has garnered just under 20 million listens as of late Monday.
