The latest cover story of New York Magazine has faced backlash after mocking Republican women.
Monday's story, written by Rebecca Traister and titled "How Did Republican Women End Up Like This?," questions the evolution of Republican women in recent years.
The story highlighted several prominent female figures and politicians, including Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn, Missouri secretary of state hopeful Valentina Gomez, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, and South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace, among others, and their take on the nation's culture war on sex, gender, and feminism. Traister decried the featured Republican women as transphobic, homophobic, and decried their embrace of "compliant, cheerful femininity." For our latest cover story, @rtraister reports on the surprising evolution of the Republican woman — their wrath, sweetness, strength, and subservience to the MAGA right, observed. https://t.co/QQCvJPVQSh pic.twitter.com/BNzvq7CjZo

In response to the article, a series of Republicans and other conservatives panned the story's mockery of Republican women.
Christina Pushaw, former rapid response director to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' 2024 presidential campaign, panned the article as "lazy" and "narrow-minded.
"Do you know any Republican women? I mean in your family or circles of friends?" Pushaw asked in an X post. "Because it seems like you are lazy and narrow-minded enough to form strong opinions about all of us based on a few politicians and media personalities."
"Congrats on your 'Chicks Without Dicks' issue," wrote singer and songwriter Brad Skistimas, who performs as Five Times August. Congrats on your "Chicks Without Dicks" issue.

Meghan McCain, the daughter of late-Arizona Sen. John McCain, said the article's depiction of Republican women helped former President Donald Trump in his re-election efforts.
“I can’t express enough how bullshit stereotyping/generalizing Republican women helps Trump. Because we’re all just ‘bad’ so what does it matter?" she wrote. "This is just gross & reductive. Also are democrat women ok? Because I could teach a seminar on that if we’re all gonna do this." I can’t express enough how bullshit stereotyping/generalizing Republican women helps Trump. Because we’re all just “bad” so what does it matter?

Radio host Julie Gunlock also panned the article for its "ridiculous tropes."
"The dismemberment isn’t just cover art. Libs are Silence of the Lambs’ buffalo bill-level obsessed with and baffled by conservative women," Gunlock wrote. "So they dehumanize us and reduce us to these silly stereotypes.” NY Mag outdoes itself with the ridiculous tropes. The dismemberment isn't just cover art. Libs are Silence of the Lambs' buffalo bill-level obsessed with and baffled by conservative women. So they dehumanize us and reduce us to these silly stereotypes. https://t.co/aMfBBYOtRM
