Actor Zachary Levi of Shazam! fame endorsed former President Donald Trump for reelection this November.
Levi, who many have speculated holds conservative political views and has been an outspoken supporter of independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., candidly discussed his upbringing and exposure to politics during a Saturday rally for Trump in Michigan with Kennedy and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.
The actor began his remarks by asking audience members to turn to each other and say "I'm really glad that you're alive, and I'm really glad that you're here right now."
"That's called love and that's called unity, right?" Levi said. "We're here for unity, right? We're here to make sure that we value every single person."
"Whether you're a Democrat, whether you're a Republican, whether you're a libertarian, an independent," he continued. "Every single one of us is a child of God. Every single one of us is deserving of being seen and heard and loved and valued." The actor said he grew up in a Christian conservative family, adding his parents were originally "Kennedy Democrats" who became "Reagan Republicans."
"They taught me to have a healthy level of distrust for the government and a healthy level of distrust for industry that runs amok," Levi said, adding Kennedy's campaign represented everything that he had searched for in a presidential candidate. "I thought man this guy's it. He's the real deal."
Levi said he would have voted for Kennedy in a perfect world.
"But we don't live in a perfect world. In fact, we live in a very broken one," Levi added. "We live in a country that has been hijacked by a lot of people who want to take this place way off the cliff."
"We're here to make sure that we are going to take back this country. We are going to make it great again. We are going to make it healthy again," the actor continued. "And so I stand with Bobby and I stand with Tulsi, and I stand with everyone else who is standing with President Trump, because I do believe that of the two choices we have, and we only have two."
"Donald Trump is the man that can get us there, and he's gonna get us there because he's going to have the backing and the support and the wisdom and the knowledge and the fight that exists in Robert Kennedy Jr. and former representative Tulsi Gabbard," Levi concluded.
Levi noted his endorsement was likely "career suicide" later during the rally.
“When I came out and I said I was endorsing President Trump through my endorsement of Tulsi and Bobby, the messages that I received … 90 percent have actually been quite lovely and supportive, and I’ve really appreciated that,” Levi said. “But I will say, though, within my industry, as you can probably imagine, Hollywood is a very, very liberal town, and this very well could constitute career suicide.”
