Former members of the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. presidential campaign unveiled a new political action committee supporting President Donald Trump.
The Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Super PAC vows to support candidates who prioritize regenerative agriculture, conservation, as well as the eradication of corporate corruption and chronic disease.
“By aligning RFK Jr.'s transformative policies with Mr. Trump's proven leadership, MAHA seeks to create a powerful alliance that places public health and environmental protection at the forefront of national governance,” the PAC stated in its press release.
Kennedy was frequently criticized for expressing his concerns about vaccines. In October 2023, AP News accused the environmental lawyer of “stoking fears and mistrust of vaccines.”
Kennedy suspended his independent bid for president on Aug. 23. He endorsed Trump and said he would remove his name from the ballot in 10 states where he may detract voters from the Republican candidate.
"There are still many issues and approaches on which we continue to have very serious differences,” said Kennedy. “But we are aligned on other key issues."
In his separate address, he vowed to not let his supporters’ “efforts to go to waste.”
“I will leverage your tremendous accomplishments to serve the ideals that we share: the ideals of peace, of prosperity, of freedom, of health, all the ideals that motivated my campaign,” he said in his remarks.
Kennedy added:Today we spend more on health care than any country on Earth, twice what they pay in Europe. And yet we have the worst health outcomes of any nation in the world. We’re about 79th in health outcomes, behind Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Mongolia and other countries. Nobody has a chronic disease burden like we have. During the COVID epidemic, we had the highest body count of any country in the world. We had 16 percent of the COVID deaths even though we only have 4.2 percent of the world’s population.
The new super PAC formed by veterans of the Kennedy campaign aims to keep his legislative goals concerning public health at the forefront of the 2024 presidential election.
“The MAHA Super PAC is essentially a machine we’ve built to turn contributions into powerful messages that resonate with RFK Jr.'s supporters,” said MAHA spokesman Jeff Hutt. “Our goal is to ensure that as many of them as possible vote for Trump, helping to win the election and bring RFK Jr.'s policies to the forefront of national governance.”
There is some speculation that Kennedy may join Trump’s next administration as a cabinet member – possibly leading the Department of Health and Human Services.
“By historical comparisons, Kennedy, a famous anti-vaccine advocate and conspiracy theorist, would be an odd pick for HHS secretary,” noted NBC News. “Previous appointees have had varied backgrounds in medicine, government, law and public health.”
