Former President Donald Trump indicated he would not be interested in debating independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
While leaving the Manhattan courthouse where his "hush money" trial is currently underway, one reporter asked if Trump would be open to debating Kennedy.
"RFK? I don't know anything about him," Trump responded. "Look, RFK is polling very low. He's not a serious candidate."
The former president noted some have indicated Kenedy's campaign hurts President Biden's re-election efforts more than Trump's.
"I don't know who he hurts. He might hurt me, I don't know," Trump continued. "But he has very low numbers, certainly not numbers he can debate with. He's gotta get his numbers up a lot higher before he's credible."
The former president reiterated others have suggested Kennedy's campaign posed more of a threat to Biden rather than himself, adding "I don't see him as a factor."
In March, the former president referred to Kennedy as "the most radical left candidate" after the independent presidential candidate tapped lawyer and Democrat donor Nicole Shanahan as his vice-presidential running mate.
“RFK Jr. is the most Radical Left Candidate in the race, by far. He’s a big fan of the Green New Scam, and other economy killing disasters,” Trump said at the time. “I guess this would mean he is going to be taking votes from Crooked Joe Biden, which would be a great service to America.”
Late last month, Trump once again teed off on Kennedy, referring to him as a "plant" to spoil the upcoming election.
"RFK Jr. is a Democrat 'Plant,' a Radical Left Liberal who’s been put in place in order to help Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the History of the United States, get Re-Elected," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. "A Vote for Junior’ would essentially be a WASTED PROTEST VOTE, that could swing either way, but would only swing against the Democrats if Republicans knew the true story about him. Junior’ is totally Anti-Gun, an Extreme Environmentalist who makes the Green New Scammers look Conservative, a Big Time Taxer and Open Border Advocate, and Anti-Military/Vet…"
Kennedy has previously declared Biden a "much worse threat to democracy" than Trump.
“The greatest threat to democracy is not somebody who questions election returns, but a president of the United States who uses the power of his office to force the social media companies, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter to open a portal and give access to that portal to the FBI, to the CIA, to the IRS, to CISA, to NIH to censor his political critics,” Kennedy said last month during an appearance on CNN.
On Wednesday, Kennedy called for President Biden to drop out of the race, warning his re-election campaign helps Trump's chances of returning to the White House.
