Trump Responds To De Niro's Tuesday Remarks Outside NYC Courthouse

Former President Donald Trump responded to Robert De Niro's Tuesday press conference outside of the Manhattan courthouse where a jury is currently deliberating the former president's “hush money” trial.

During De Niro's press conference, held in support of President Joe Biden's re-election effort, the actor claimed Trump sought to "sow total chaos" and warned the former president would "never leave" office if re-elected this November.

Trump responded to De Niro's remarks in an early Wednesday morning post to Truth Social.

"I never knew how small, both mentally and physically, Wacko Former Actor Robert De Niro was," Trump wrote. "Today, De Niro, who suffers from an incurable case of TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, commonly known in the medical community as TDS, was met, outside the Courthouse, with a force far greater than the Radical Left - MAGA."

The former president said De Niro's films and talent had gone "down in value" since the actor began discussing politics.

"[He] looked so pathetic and sad out there," Trump continued, before quoting a Simon and Garfunkel lyric: "Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio!!!"

De Niro read prepared remarks while speaking to media outside the Manhattan courthouse, though was met with derision from the crowd, many of whom were there in support of Trump during his trial.

“Donald Trump wants to destroy not only this city, but the country and, eventually, he could destroy the world. But we vowed we would not allow terrorists…” the actor said, though paused as the crowd appeared to shout "F--- Joe Biden."

De Niro continued his remarks, insisting Trump, a New York City native, did not belong in the city.

“Under Trump, this kind of government will perish from the earth,” he continued. “I don’t mean to scare you. No, no, wait, maybe I do mean to scare you. If Trump returns to the White House, you can kiss these freedoms goodbye, that we all take for granted. And elections, forget about it. That’s over. That’s done.”

The actor added: “If he gets in, I can tell you right now, he will never leave. He will never leave. You know that. He will never leave.”

De Niro went on to suggest Trump would declare himself "dictator for life," and insisted the only avenue to prevent a Trump dictatorship was to vote for Biden this November.

"Really. We don't have a choice," the actor said.

During his remarks, De Niro, who was flanked by Capitol Police officers Henry Dunn and Michael Fanone, sparred with several people in the crowd, including one person who claimed the officers were "traitors" who "lied under oath."

"They're traitors? I don’t even know how to deal with you, my friend,” De Niro said. “They stood there and fought – for us! For you. For you!"

"They didn't fight for me,” the person shot back.

Other members of the crowd mocked De Niro, saying the actor was "afraid" and hadn't produced an entertaining film in the past two decades.

Biden's communication director Michael Tyler said the press conference's location was chosen due the trial's sizable media presence.

“It’s easy to talk about the choice in this election when the entire news media is here day in and day out,” Tyler said, per The Hill.
