Former President Donald Trump insisted President Joe Biden must take a cognitive test in order to find out why Biden "makes such terrible decisions."
Trump's remark follows yesterday's statement from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in which she said the president "doesn't need" a cognitive test. Jean-Pierre said Biden's daily engagement through his duties as president were sufficient in lieu of taking an official cognitive test.
Trump insisted Biden should be required to take a cognitive test in a Thursday Truth Social post.
"Crooked Joe Biden must take a Cognitive Test," Trump wrote. "Maybe that way we would be able to find out why he makes such terrible decisions."
Trump said he has taken two cognitive tests and claimed to have "ACED them both."
"All Presidents, or people wanting to become President, should mandatorily take this test!" Trump added.
“The president doesn’t need a cognitive test,” Jean-Pierre said during a Wednesday press briefing. “That is not my assessment. That is not my assessment. That is the assessment of the president’s doctor. That is also the assessment of the neurologist who has also made that assessment as well.”
“The president, who is also the commander-in-chief — he passes a cognitive test every day — every day, as he moves from one topic to another topic, trying — understanding the granular level of these topics,” she said. “You saw him talk about a fighting crime today. Tomorrow, he’s going to go to the border. Next week, he’s going to give a State of the Union address.”
One reporter pushed back on Jean-Pierre's assessment and asked why Biden wouldn't take a cognitive test if the White House was confident in the president's mental capabilities to quell Americans' concerns.
“I think folks need to understand that the president passes, again, a cognitive test every day,” she reiterated. “If you look at what a clinical cognitive test is actually, what it actually does, it is a 15-minute appointment that is — that is administered by someone that, most of the time, people don’t actually know.”
The president recently went under his annual physical exam for this year. Biden's White House physician, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, said there were "no new concerns" over the president's health since his last exam in 2023.
Biden's physician said the president was “fit for duty and fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations," also adding Biden was “healthy, active, and robust.”
O'Connor conducted Biden's exam along with the consultation of specialists in other medical specialties including optometry, dentistry, orthopedics, physical therapy, neurology, sleep medicine, cardiology, radiology, and dermatology.
“Each of these specialists have independently reviewed the chart, examined the President, and concur with my findings and recommendations,” O'Connor said. “I have also solicited feedback from my respected colleagues – the other physicians in the White House Medical Unit, who see the patient every day. Each of these doctors has reviewed my report for accuracy. My conclusions have been further informed through discussions with several of my fellow professors from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.”
