The View's Sunny Hostin said her faith in the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has been "restored" after the high court ruled against the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) attempt to regulate abortion pills.
On Thursday, SCOTUS rejected a lawsuit challenging the FDA effort to regulate abortion pills, allowing the medication to be sent to patients through the mail without an in-person visit to their doctor.
During a broadcast of the program this morning, fellow co-host Joy Behar began the segment saying it was "nice to hear good news about the Supreme Court for a change."
Hostin, a lawyer, said states would still attempt to regulate abortion pills.
“There are about 14 states where even this pill is not allowed to be used for abortion purposes, so we’re still kind of in the same situation when it comes to states' rights to decide a woman’s reproductive health rights,” Hostin said, though said she held a positive view of the ruling. “It does restore a little bit of my faith in the court because the legal standard is, do you have standing to bring a case? Can anybody bring a case in front of the Supreme Court? No," she continued. "You have to prove that you have injuries resulting from it and so you’ve got a group of doctors and a group of citizens and all of these people bring this challenge to the FDA and say, we don’t want this pill.”
“If these had been plaintiffs that had standing and the issue had been in front of the Supreme Court, God only knows,” Hostin added.
Hostin, a Catholic, says she believes life begins at conception, though has also criticized anti-abortion advocates for pushing their beliefs onto others.
During a May 2022 broadcast of The View, Hostin cited separation of church and state for her perspective on abortion.
"That’s something that I learned about in law school, and that I think most people know about, and I myself am also a Roman Catholic, a proud Roman Catholic. I’ve said it many, many times.” Hostin said. “You ladies have taught me so much when it comes to my position on abortion. I came in on this show five years ago saying I am pro-life, and anyone who has an abortion is wrong and they’re killing babies."
“My position now is I think it is wrong. I think life begins as conception," she continued. "That is my faith. I am not going to make that judgment call for anyone else.” 'Proud Roman Catholic' Sunny Hostin thanks 'The View' for teaching her that *she* was wrong to tell other people not to abort their babies. pic.twitter.com/vnHXfefrqS

“I have changed, and I’ve changed because you’ve taught me that," she added.
