Squad Members Call For Ceasefire During SOTU

The progressive Democratic members' protest followed a demonstration down the street from the Capitol before Biden's speech.

Squad Members Call For Ceasefire During SOTU

Progressive Democrat members of The Squad held signs calling for a ceasefire from Israel during Thursday's State of the Union (SOTU) address.

As President Biden delivered his speech, Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Cori Bush of Missouri, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachussetts held signs reading, "LASTING CEASEFIRE NOW," and "STOP SENDING BOMBS."

Other Democratic members of Congress donned pins of the Palestinian flag.

New Jersey Rep. Bill Pascrell also attended the SOTU draped in the Ukrainian flag.

Before the SOTU, a group of pro-Palestinian protestors attempted to block President Joe Biden's motorcade while en route to deliver the address.

"Not another nickel, not another dime. No more money for Israel's crimes," they chanted as some marched down the road while others sat in an attempt to block traffic.

Some protestors held signs similarly asserting Biden's legacy was genocide, while other demonstrators led the crowd in chanting, "Genocide Joe."

Earlier today, fencing was erected around the White House in an apparent attempt to prepare for protests possibly becoming violent.

Biden has come under intense pressure to call for a ceasefire following months of military conflict in the Middle East after Israel was attacked by Islamic militant group Hamas on Oct. 7th last year.
