The Republican National Committee (RNC) has named former President Donald Trump the presumptive GOP nominee for president this November.
The RNC released their statement on Wednesday shortly after lone Republican challenger Nikki Haley suspended her presidential campaign this morning.
“Congratulations to President Donald J. Trump on his huge primary victory! I’d also like to congratulate Nikki Haley for running a hard-fought campaign and becoming the first woman to win a Republican presidential primary contest,” outgoing RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement. “President Trump once delivered a booming economy, secure border, energy independence, and America’s strength on the world stage, the exact opposite of the chaos created by Joe Biden."
“Republican voters have spoken loud and clear with historically large margins and we are more united than ever to beat Biden and Democrats up and down the ballot in November," she added.
Haley's campaign suspension follows her lackluster performance in last night's Super Tuesday. Out of fifteen states voting, Haley only won the Vermont primay, which followed her first primary win in Washington, D.C. on Sunday.
“I said I wanted Americans to have their voices heard. I have done that,” Haley said in a concession speech on Wednesday. “I have no regrets.”
“I sought the honor of being your president. But in our great country, being a private citizen is privileged enough in itself,” she continued. “And that is a privilege I very much look forward to enjoying.”
Haley notably did not endorse Trump for president, and instead said the former president needed to "earn the votes" of Republicans and those "who did not support him."
“At its best, politics is about bringing people into your cause – not turning them away,” she added. “This is now his time for choosing.”
Prior to Haley suspending her campaign, Trump commented on her Super Tuesday performance in a Truth Social post.
"Nikki Haley got TROUNCED last night, in record setting fashion, despite the fact that Democrats, for reasons unknown, are allowed to vote in Vermont, and various other Republican Primaries," Trump wrote. "Much of her money came from Radical Left Democrats, as did many of her voters, almost 50%, according to the polls."
Trump said he hoped Haley would remain in the race to fight until the end of the primary season.
"I’d like to thank my family, friends, and the Great Republican Party for helping me to produce, by far, the most successful Super Tuesday in HISTORY, and would further like to invite all of the Haley supporters to join the greatest movement in the history of our Nation," the former president added. "BIDEN IS THE ENEMY, HE IS DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"
