New York Rep. Elise Stefanik argued the "soul" of the United States was on the ballot this November.
Stefanik, the chair of the House Republican Conference, made her argument during a Tuesday speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee.
"We always say that this is the most important election in our lifetime, but we know deep down this one truly is," Stefanik opened her speech. "Our Constitution and the soul of our very nation are on the ballot."
Stefanik then said the country has faced "crisis after crisis" under President Joe Biden's administration.
"From the Biden border, the most wide-open border in our nation’s history, to Bidenflation, the highest rate of inflation in my lifetime, devastating hardworking families with skyrocketing prices for groceries, gas, and utilities," Stefanik continued. “To Biden’s violent crime crisis fueled by Democrats’ pro-criminal sanctuary cities, and defund-the-police policies like we have seen in my home state of New York – all while corrupt Democrat prosecutors and judges wage illegal and unconstitutional lawfare against President Trump in an effort to do Joe Biden’s political bidding,” she said, also referencing the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan which left 13 United States service members dead after a terrorist attack. “Around the world the feckless and failed Joe Biden has caused chaos, weakening our national security: from the catastrophic withdrawal of Afghanistan to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine to Hamas’ terrorist attack against our most precious ally, Israel."
Stefanik then lauded Trump's leadership and stance on foreign policy and took aim at progressive lawmakers who have been critical of Israel amidst their conflict in the Middle East.
“President Trump will bring back moral leadership to the White House, [condemn] anti-Semitism and standing strong with Israel and the Jewish people," she said. “President Trump has done it before and he will do it again."
The New York lawmaker was speculated to be on Trump's list for vice president, though on Monday, Ohio Rep. J.D. Vance was tapped as Trump's running mate in the November election.
Vance is a veteran of the United State Marine Corps, a technology entrepreneur, and the author of the best-selling book Hillbilly Elegy. A previous “never Trumper,” Vance has become a vocal supporter of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
