Trump Makes First X Posts in Nearly a Year

Former president Donald Trump revived his activity on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday ahead of his interview with the platform’s owner, Elon Musk.

“Are you better off now than you were when I was president?” he wrote in one of his first posts in nearly a year. “Our economy is shattered. Our border has been erased. We're a nation in decline. Make the American Dream AFFORDABLE again.”

“Make America SAFE again. Make America GREAT Again!” he added.

Trump also shared a two-and-a-half-minute campaign ad, a 30-second spot, and a video composed of various sound bites from opponent Kamala Harris.

The former president also posted an image promoting his upcoming interview with Musk, which is scheduled to take place on X tonight at 8 p.m. EST.

"ON MONDAY NIGHT I'LL BE DOING A MAJOR INTERVIEW WITH ELON MUSK," Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social, last week, adding more details about the interview would come.

Prior to today’s activity, Trump’s most recent post was from last summer when the former president was booked in Fulton County, Georgia after being charged in a racketeering case.

Trump posted an image with a mugshot and the phrases “ELECTION INTERFERNCE” and “NEVER SURRENDER!” along with his website.

That post, on Aug. 24, 2023, represented his first return to the platform after being banned following the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

In his final post before being banned, Trump informed his followers he would not be attending President Joe Biden's inauguration on Jan. 20.

The Republican presidential nominee, who currently has over 88 million followers on X, played a key role in driving political engagement on the site before it was purchased by Musk in 2022.

Trump’s Monday revival of his X account caused a number of the platform’s users to speculate if “mean tweets” have returned. Though the term was coined by a segment from Jimmy Kimmel Live! where celebrities would read insulting tweets about them, Trump’s activity on Twitter is viewed by many as a peak moment in time for “more tweets.”
