Bill Maher suggested Democrats should abandon President Joe Biden as the 2024 nominee in favor of another candidate for the election this November.
Maher encouraged Democrats to dump Biden during a weekend broadcast of his long-running late-night talk show, Real Time With Bill Maher.
“I said he was going to be the Ruth Bader Ginsburg of presidential politics," Maher said of Biden. "He stayed too long at the fair.”
The comedian noted Biden had declined to participate in the pre-game Super Bowl interview for the second year. Maher also referenced a recent DOJ report which found the president "willfully retained and disclosed classified materials" after his time as vice president. However, the DOJ also said they will not seek criminal charges against the president, claiming Biden was not in a "mental state of willfulness," per the report.
“He said ‘I see myself as a bridge’ that’s collapsing,” Maher said, referencing Biden's comments prior to the 2020 election. “I read that as one term. And I guess the question now is, is it too late? And I don’t think it is because I still think you can do it at the convention."
Maher noted Biden supporters have referred to the idea of swapping Biden out as "ridiculous" in private conversation.
"Nobody gives a f--- what they do at the convention," Maher said, insisting Biden could be replaced at the DNC convention this summer.
“If a guy says, ‘I can’t run,’ then you have to do it,” Maher said. “Then it has to be somebody else. Then it’s an open convention. We’ve had open conventions many times. … They make it up as they go along anyway. It’s politics.”
The comedian, who is an outspoken liberal, has been critical of Democrats in recent months. During a recent episode of his podcast, Club Random, Maher said liberals were a "different kind of nuts" in comparison to former President Donald Trump.
Maher took aim at "people on the left" who believe biology is a theory while discussing Trump and Democrats with guest Martin Short.
"Men can have babies kind of stuff," Maher said. "That makes people go 'Trump is nuts.' That's true. We know that. But this is a different kind of nuts that's closer to my house."
During a September appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience last year, Maher compared "woke" ideology to beliefs espoused by the Ku Klux Klan.
“I’m always trying to make the case that liberal is a different animal than woke, because it is, and you can be woke with all the nonsense that that now implies,” Maher said, adding “woke” ideology was an “undoing” of liberalism. “I have always believed, as liberals do, for example, in a colorblind society, that the goal is to not see race at all, anywhere, for any reason. That’s what liberals always believed all the way through Obama, going back to Kennedy, everybody, Martin Luther King.”
During a November episode of his late-night show, Maher suggested President Joe Biden would lose the 2024 election because he's "too old."
