Comedian and late-night talk show host Bill Maher said liberals were a "different kind of nuts" in comparison to former President Donald Trump.
Maher, a lifelong liberal, made his remark during a Sunday episode of his Club Random podcast with fellow comedian Martin Short.
While discussing Trump and Democrats, Maher took aim at "people on the left" who believe biology is a theory.
"Men can have babies kind of stuff," Maher said, "that makes people go 'Trump is nuts.' That's true. We know that."
"But this is a different kind of nuts that's closer to my house," he added.

Maher said it was good that kids felt comfortable to be themselves but said LGBTQ+ ideology was like FBI entrapment.
"I think that's somewhat what goes on in schools," he said of LGBTQ+ curricula. "That's what some parents are complaining about."
"We're not against homosexuality, but when every book is Bobby can wear a dress, the kid gets it in his head, you know?" Maher said, adding it was a "confusing time" for young people.
Short said he had friends who were Catholic Republicans that didn't care for Trump, though believed "the left [is] nuts."
During a September appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience last year, Maher compared "woke" ideology to beliefs espoused by the Ku Klux Klan.
“I’m always trying to make the case that liberal is a different animal than woke, because it is, and you can be woke with all the nonsense that that now implies,” Maher said, adding “woke” ideology was an “undoing” of liberalism. “I have always believed, as liberals do, for example, in a colorblind society, that the goal is to not see race at all, anywhere, for any reason. That’s what liberals always believed all the way through Obama, going back Kennedy, everybody, Martin Luther King.”
“That’s not what the woke believe,” Maher added. “They believe race is first and foremost, the thing you should always see everywhere, which I find interesting because that used to be the position of the Ku Klux Klan — that we see race first and foremost, everywhere. So again, you can have that position. But don’t say that’s a liberal position. You’re doing something very different.”
In November, Maher suggested President Joe Biden would lose the 2024 election because he's "too old" during a broadcast of his long-running HBO program Real Time with Bill Maher.
The comedian said he believed Biden was capable of leading the country through a second term, though was incapable of securing another victory in the White House as voters were concerned about his age.
“I don’t think he can win the job. And that’s what I care about,” Maher said. “He’s going to lose. Because the people think he’s too old. And perception is reality. I’m sorry.”
