Former Trump Official in Critical Condition After Being Shot During DC Carjacking

Former Trump administration official Mike Gill is in critical condition after being shot during a carjacking in Washington, DC, on Monday.

The father of three is believed to have been shot by a suspect in a string of carjackings across the greater DC area.

The incident took place in the 900 block of K Street NW around 5:45 p.m.

Fox 5 DC reports, "The suspect allegedly entered Gill's car, shot him, and ran away."

Gill's shooting is believed to be the first in a crime spree that left another victim dead.

"Metropolitan Police Department officials believe after the suspect shot Mr. Gill, the suspect stole a Chrysler 200 and shot and killed the car owner on the 1000 block of 3rd Street NE," the report added.

WTOP reports, "D.C. police said the suspect then committed two more carjackings in Prince George’s County. Around 3 a.m. Tuesday, driving a carjacked vehicle on Interstate 295, police said the suspect began shooting at a D.C. police car, hitting the driver’s side door."

"Police also believe the same suspect shot at least once after being spotted by a Maryland State Police trooper helping stranded motorists on I-95 near Maryland Route 198 and Laurel around 3:30 a.m. The trooper’s windshield was struck, Maryland State Police Superintendent Col. Roland Butler said."

On Tuesday morning, two New Carrollton officers noticed the stolen vehicle that the suspect was inside.

As they went to approach, the man went toward the officers and “produced two hand guns.”

The suspect was fatally shot by the officers.

The deceased suspect has not been publicly identified.

Gill served as the chief operating officer of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission under the former president. He is currently the senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council.

Gill's family sent the following statement to Fox 5:

"Mike is an amazing husband, father, friend and colleague. He has a wonderful sense of humor, no matter the situation. He makes friends with everyone - and is always looking for opportunities to bring people together and make them feel included and loved. His warmth and kindness have touched the lives of many, evident in the outpouring of love and support his family has have received during this difficult time. Mike's remarkable ability to connect with others transcends boundaries. His genuine interest in people and his innate ability to make everyone feel valued and included have been instrumental in fostering a sense of community wherever he goes. Whether it's through his infectious laughter, his genuine concern for others, or his innate ability to find common ground, Mike is a catalyst for unity and friendship. The most important thing about Mike that all of his friends know is how much he loves his family and how proud he is of his three children. You can't know Mike without hearing proud stories of each one of his kids, and hearing about his love and respect for his wife, Kristina."

He remained in critical condition as of Tuesday evening.
