Democrats Sounding Alarm After Biden's Debate Performance

Democratic are sounding the alarm after President Joe Biden's performance during Thursday night's debate with former President Donald Trump.

Throughout Thursday's debate hosted by CNN, Biden's voice sounded low and raspy, though some claimed the president was battling a cold. Biden also stumbled and appeared to be confused throughout some responses while Trump appeared measured and focused in comparison.

In response to one of Biden's answers to a border security question, Trump said he didn't understand what the president said.

"I really don't know what he said at the end of that sentence and I don't think he knows what he said either," Trump replied before touting his handling of the nation's border during his time in office.

Biden also made several false statements throughout the debate, claiming he was the "only president of the 20th century" to not lose American troops. During 2021's withdrawal from the Afghanistan war, the Biden administration oversaw the death of 13 soldiers after a suicide bomber carried out an attack during the mission.

The president referenced the 13 soldiers killed in the attack while delivering remarks the following day.

Biden also referenced a debunked claim that Trump praised white nationalists during the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia which left one woman dead.

During a press conference following the event, Trump noted there were "very fine" people on both sides of the demonstration, though noted he was not referring to neo-Nazis or white nationalists present.

"You had some very bad people in that group. But you also had people that were very fine people on both sides," Trump said. "You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down, of to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name."

"It’s fine, you’re changing history, you’re changing culture, and you had people – and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally – but you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists, okay?" Trump added.

During CNN's post-debate analysis, the outlet ran chyrons indicating Democratic sources were concerned over Biden's lackluster performance.

One panelist noted Democratic strategists were having conversations about replacing Biden as the Democratic nominee for

Biden and Trump are scheduled to debate once more in September.
