Radio host Lenard Larry McKelvey, known professionally as Charlamagne tha God, said illegal immigration was hurting the Democratic Party's chances of keeping the White House this November.
Charlamagne, who hosts The Breakfast Club, said working class people were calling the radio station overwhelmingly concerned with the country's state of affairs, including the unprecedented illegal border crossings under President Joe Biden and the Democrats' lax immigration policies.
“I honestly have never spoken to as many people who are concerned about the migrant issue as I have, you know, over the past year,” the radio host said. “I’ve heard everything from, you know, the gang MS13 overrunning neighborhoods … what we saw just happened in New York City, where the migrants, they took 2,000 migrants and put them in the school and made the school stay home, made the students stay home and do school via Zoom.”
Charlamagne noted that was a "big issue" for callers.
“People were calling the radio station — that was just this week, you know, really, really, really complaining about that," he continued. "So I’ve never seen working-class people who I interact with every day until this past year really, really, really expressed their frustration for the migrants.”
The radio host said policies proposed by Democratic leaders like New York City Mayor Eric Adams should be curbed.
"This is too much," he said, noting Vice President Kamala Harris infamously told illegal migrants not to enter the country.
“We’ve heard Vice President Kamala Harris say, ‘Hey, don’t come.’ Like we’ve seen that," he said, adding it would be a "real big issue" this upcoming election. "I’m telling you, people are going to go to those sound bites … where they saw President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and Mayor Eric Adams and all of these other, you know, liberals and Democrats, they’re going to go to those sound bites of them welcoming them into sanctuary cities.”
Earlier this month, Charlamagne said he regretted backing Harris during the 2020 presidential election.
“Once they got in the White House,” Charlamagne said of Biden and Harris, “she … kind of disappeared.”
“When I give people my word like: ‘Yo man, I think we should be supporting Kamala Harris for vice president … because she’s going to hold it down,'” he said. “When we say those things and people don’t see her holding it down, that causes issues.”
In October 2020, Biden appeared on The Breakfast Club and infamously said, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me of Trump, then you ain’t black.”
Biden later walked back the comment, saying he “should not have been so cavalier” during the interview, per the Washington Post.
