Radio host Lenard Larry McKelvey, known professionally as Charlamagne tha God, said he regretted his previous support for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Charlamagne, who hosts The Breakfast Club, discussed his disappointment with the vice president in a Tuesday interview published by Politico.
"Once they got in the White House," Charlamagne said of President Joe Biden and Harris, "she … kind of disappeared."
The Breakfast Club host said he had "learned [his] lesson" from supporting Harris.
"When I give people my word like: ‘Yo man, I think we should be supporting Kamala Harris for vice president … because she’s going to hold it down,'" he said. "When we say those things and people don’t see her holding it down, that causes issues."
The radio host said his credibility had been called into question for his support for a Biden-Harris ticket in 2020.
"Damn, you told us to vote for [them]?' Charlamagne said. "Do you know how many people say that to me all the time?"
Charlamagne also lamented Democrats' continued focus on former President Donald Trump. “It’s almost like Democrats are doing this purity test," he said. "America is not pure. The people of America are not pure. We’re flawed." “I’m not looking for my politicians to be pure ... I’m looking for my politicians to be effective," he added.
The Breakfast Club host, who has interviewed both Harris and Biden on his program, said he didn't believe either would join his show for another interview in 2024 leading up to the election this November.
Charlamagne originally endorsed Biden in 2020 after the then-Democratic presidential candidate selected then-California Senator Harris as his running mate.
During an October 2020 interview with Biden, Chalamagne said he was "not necessarily voting for" Biden, adding, "I'm voting for Senator Kamala Harris."
"I believe she’s a political change agent, exactly the leader this country needs to lead us in the future. If she’s not, I’ll just be wrong," Charlamagne added. "I’m just so tired of old White male leadership in politics."
During the interview, Biden infamously told Charlamagne, "If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me of Trump, then you ain't black."
Biden later walked back the comment, saying he “should not have been so cavalier” during the interview, per the Washington Post.
During a December 2021 interview with Harris, Charlamagne pressed the vice president on who the "real" President was.
"I want to know who the real president of this country is — is it Joe Biden, or Joe Manchin?" Charlamagne asked in reference to the West Virginia Senator.
Harris insisted Biden was in fact the "real" President.
"C'mon, Charlamagne," she said. "It's Joe Biden."
"Don’t start talking like a Republican, about asking whether or not he’s president ... it’s Joe Biden," she reiterated. "And I'm vice president and my name is Kamala Harris."
