Fresh off the heels of last year's infamous controversial endorsement, adult beverage brand Bud Light announced a partnership with comedian Shane Gillis.
Gillis originally announced the partnership in a Tuesday post to his Instagram account.
"Excited to announce partnership with Bud Light," Gillis captioned a photo of him in a Bud Light factory wearing the brand's logo on his hat.
Bud Light confirmed their partnership with Gillis in a post to the company's Instagram shortly after.
"Welcome to the team, Shane Gillis. Excited to be a part of your 2024 tour," the company wrote.
Last year, Bud Light faced intense backlash after the company sponsored TikTok influencer and transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney.
The brand faced a consumer boycott following their partnership with Mulvaney and subsequently suffered a significant drop in sales.
Bud Light's then-VP of marketing Alissa Heinercheid said the brand sought to incorporate inclusivity in their decision to sponsor the TikTok influencer.
"It means shifting the tone, it means having a campaign that’s truly inclusive, and feels lighter and brighter and different, and appeals to women and to men," Heinercheid said. "We had this hangover, I mean Bud Light had been kind of a brand of fratty, kind of out of touch humor, and it was really important that we had another approach."
Heinercheid took a leave of absence from Bud Light shortly after.
In 2019, Gillis was infamously brought on as a new cast member of the long-running sketch-comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL), though was let go before his tenure on the program began after racy jokes made by the comic on a podcast resurfaced.
"After talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining SNL," the show stated at the time. "We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard."
Last May, Gillis appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience and discussed the ongoing Bud Light boycott.
