Off the heels of his success with The Rippaverse, Eric D. July's Rap-Metal liberty-infused band Backwordz has released their first single in nearly four years.
"WhitePilled," released late Thursday, features a message of perseverance and dedication when surrounded by those with a defeatist mentality, typically referred to as "black pilled" online.
The song opens by rejecting the use of excuses for failing to accomplish one's goals as July declares: "Move!"
"I’m aware ... it’s a, uphill battle but hence my attitude," July wails. "I’m prepared if I have to travel a destined avenue."
"Great. But don’t mistake this, patience for no foundation I may be an optimist, but I know what we’re up against so shut it," the Backwordz frontman continues.

Fellow Backwordz vocalist and bassist Alex James compliments July with the following vocals: "I understand if you’re down and out / But I cannot have you around."
"Stay away from me if your plan's to sob / There is just no way I'll concede, and bury my mind to wade in defeat," James harmonizes. "There's got to be a way where there's a will because our fate is never sealed / There is just no way I'll concede and bury my mind to wade in defeat."
"WhitePilled" also serves as The Rippaverse's official anthem.
"WhitePilled isn't simply about overcoming obstacles," July wrote of the new single in an early-Friday X post. "It's about dealing with those that want you to join them in their misery."
"They've stopped putting up a fight, and because they've given up, they attempt to demoralize you," July continued. "It’s because they feel better about giving up if you do as well."
"Do not fall for such a trap. No matter how challenging; no matter how difficult. Keep going and rid yourself of that negative, loser mentality," July added.
James, who serves as Rippaverse's Financial Operations Manager, also commented on the release of "WhitePilled."
"When I was in college, Coheed & Cambria was one of my favorite bands," James wrote. "The idea of a band tying into a comic book universe was so cool to me. I had completely forgotten about that until one of my friends brought it up to me that, in a way, I have been a part of achieving that same thing. Especially now."
"BackWordz is BACK!" James added.
Backwordz released their last track in June 2020 titled, "The Great Equalizer." The track featured a pro-Second Amendment message as July stated, "I’d rather have and not nee it than need it and not happen to have it."
