Former Hawaii representative Tulsi Gabbard criticized the Democratic Party's political persecution of former President Donald Trump in a recent video.
Gabbard, who left the Democratic Party last year, shared a video to X arguing persecution of the former president stemmed from Democratic fear that Trump could be re-elected in 2024.
"The political persecution of Trump is an obvious attempt by Biden/Dem elite to drain Trump's attention and resources," Gabbard wrote. "Their actions expose their utter contempt for democracy and the rule of law."
Gabbard also said political persecution of Trump makes Democrats' talking point of "protecting democracies around the world ... laughable."
“Anyone who’s looking at what’s happening with clear eyes and an open mind can recognize how overtly they are trying to keep President Trump off of the campaign trail, to keep him away from being able to make his case to voters in this country of why they should elect him as President and Commander in Chief once again,” she said. “They’re afraid that he actually could win, which is why they’re committing this such egregious abuse of power that cuts so much deeper than just going after President Trump."
“What they’re really doing is setting this precedent that puts the United States of America not on a high platform of trying to be an example of democracy to the world, but of reducing our great country to none other than a banana republic and an abuse of power that we see happening in other countries around the world,” she added.
Last October, Gabbard shared a 28-minute video announcing her departure from the Democrat Party, which she referred to as an "elitist cabal of war mongers."
"I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic party. It’s now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of war mongers driven by cowardly wokeness who divide us by racializing every issue and stoking anti-white racism, who actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms enshrined in our constitution and who are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, who demonize the police, who protect criminals at the expense of law,” Gabbard said. "This party is led by war mongers who are firmly in the grips of the military industrial complex and don’t know or don’t care about the cost of war."
She continued:Today’s Democratic party does not believe in our constitutionally protected right to free speech. Fostering diversity of thought and freedom of expression is the very foundation of any flourishing democracy. Democratic party leaders don’t agree. They are led by fanatical ideologues who pose a threat to our democracy because they don’t believe in freedom. They don’t believe in freedom of speech, they don’t believe in freedom of thought, freedom of religion. Because of that, they try to censor speech that they don’t like, labeling it as, "Hey, this is misinformation, this is hate speech, this is violent speech."
"How can a political party that is opposed to freedom be trusted with our democracy and our God-given freedoms enshrined in the Constitution?" she asked.
Gabbard concluded her video by encouraging other "independent-minded Democrats" to join her.
