Kai Madison Trump: 'A Lot Of People Have Put My Grandpa Through Hell'

Trump's Granddaughter Gives Candid Speech At RNC

Kai Madison Trump, the former president's eldest granddaughter, gave a candid glimpse of her relationship with Trump while speaking at last night's Republican National Convention (RNC).

Donald Trump Jr., Kai's father, introduced her to the RNC by joking that it was the first time a Trump was willingly giving up their microphone.

Kai began her speech saying she wanted to share a side of her grandfather that those outside the Trump family don't witness first-hand.

“To me, he’s just a normal grandpa,” she said. “He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren’t looking. He always wants to know how we're doing in school."

Kai went on to say that the former president proudly bragged to friends about her making the honor roll in school.

"He calls me during the middle of the school day to ask how my golf game is going, and tells me all about his," Kai continued, before joking: "But then I have to remind him that I'm in school and I'll have to call him back later."

“When we play golf together, if I’m not on his team, he’ll try to get inside of my head,” she added. “And he’s always surprised that I don’t let him get to me. But I have to remind him, I’m a Trump, too.”

Kai said her grandfather always checks in with her even through his legal troubles this past year.

"On Saturday, I was shocked when I heard he had been shot, and I just wanted to know if he was okay" she said of the assassination attempt on Trump this past weekend in Butler, Pennsylvania. "It was heartbreaking to know that someone would do that to another person.”

“A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell. And he’s still standing,” she said as the audience responded with a standing ovation. “Grandpa, you are such an inspiration and I love you."

Kai concluded her speech saying her grandfather "truly wants the best" for America and will "fight every single day to Make America Great Again."

The former president made his first public appearance following the assassination attempt at Monday night's RNC donning a white bandage over his right ear. Trump is scheduled to address the RNC tonight.
