Following this weekend's controversy surrounding President Joe Biden's proclamation of Easter Sunday as Transgender Day of Visibility, former President Donald Trump has dubbed Election Day "Christian Visibility Day."
Trump made his remarks during a rally in Wisconsin on Tuesday evening as the state held its primary.
"What the hell was Biden thinking when he declared Easter Sunday to be Trans Visibility Day?” Trump asked, referring to his proclamation as "total disrespect to Christians."
"November 5th is going to be called something else," Trump continued. "You know what it's going to be called? 'Christian Visibility Day' — when Christians turn out in numbers that nobody has ever seen before."
On Saturday, Biden issued a statement from the White House proclaiming Sunday as 2024's Transgender Day of Visibility, marking the fourth consecutive year the president has done so.
“Today, on Transgender Day of Visibility, I have a simple message to all trans Americans: I see you,” Biden wrote in a Sunday X post. “You are made in the image of God, and you’re worthy of respect and dignity.”
Critics lambasted Biden's proclamation of March 31's Transgender Day of Visibility, noting the announcement fell on Easter Sunday and was an insult to the Christian faith. Others noted Transgender Day of Visibility, which began its annual celebration in 2009, has always been held on March 31, while the date of Easter Sunday changes year to year.
On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the backlash to Transgender Day of Visibility was due to "misinformation" during a press conference.
"As a Christian who celebrates Easter with family, President Biden stands for bringing people together and upholding the dignity and freedoms of every American,” she said.
The press secretary added it was "unsurprising" that "politicians on the right are seeking to divide and weaken our country with cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric.”
“President Biden will never abuse his faith for political purposes or for profit,” Jean-Pierre continued. “That is not what this administration is about. That is not what being a leader is about, and this misinformation out there [is] bad and it is dividing.”
On Monday, Biden attempted to walk back his proclamation saying he "didn't do that."
"He's thoroughly uninformed," Biden said of Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who called Biden's proclamation "abhorrent."
“President Biden is right. He did nothing in conflict with the ‘tenets of Easter,’ which he celebrated yesterday, nor did he choose the date of March 31st for the Transgender Day of Visibility, which has been set since 2009,” White House Spokesman Andrew Bates told Fox News Digital in a statement.Loading...
