Trump Endorses Tate Reeves' Re-Election Bid For Mississippi Governor

Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves for re-election.

On Wednesday, Trump released a video to his social media site Truth Social expressing support for the incumbent governor.

"To all my friends in Mississippi, you have a choice to make," Trump introduced his video. "Your great Governor Tate Reeves is under attack."

Trump took aim at the "radical left maniacs" attacking the former President adding they also opposed Reeves' governorship.

"These bad people ... want to defeat Tate Reeves because he's a fighter," he continued. "He's done a fantastic job on the border, he's tough on crime, and he loves America."

The former president encourages Mississippi residents to support Reeves' in the state's general election on Nov. 7.

"He has been a fantastic governor, and he has my total and complete endorsement," Trump concluded.

Reeves reposted Trump's endorsement to his X account Wednesday morning.

Trump previously endorsed Reeves during his initial bid for governorship in 2019 and similarly touted then-Republican candidate Reeves' tough stance on crime and illegal immigration.

Reeves will face off against Democratic challenger and member of the Mississippi Public Service Commission Brandon Presley next Tuesday.

According to Mississippi Today, Presley has outraised Gov. Reeves by over $5 million in 2023, per campaign finance reports filed last night. Presley has reportedly raised $11.2 million since January compared to Reeves' $6.2 million since the beginning of the year. Both gubernatorial candidates have spent just under $11 million each during their campaigning this year, per the outlet.

“As Brandon’s campaign continues to sprint into the home stretch, Tate Reeves continues to have dismal fundraising numbers because he is the hospital closure governor caught up in the largest public corruption scandal in state history,” Presley campaign manager Ron Owens said in a statement.

“Brandon Presley has the backing of the entire national liberal donor base and all of Joe Biden’s biggest allies,” Reeves' campaign spokesman Clifton Carroll said in a statement. “It is no surprise that they are continuing to pump in money to try and flip Mississippi blue.”

Reeves was elected Mississippi's 65th governor in November 2019 defeating Democratic challenger and state Attorney General Jim Hood. Reeves assumed governorship the following January.

The Mississippi governor previously served as Lieutenant governor of the state from 2012 until he was elected governor in 2020. Reeves also served as Mississippi state treasurer between 2004 and 2012.
