The Former President Has Also Said He Would Accept A Short-Term Stint As Interim Speaker If Necessary

Trump Endorses Jim Jordan For Speaker Of The House

Former President Donald Trump has officially endorsed Ohio Representative Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House.

Congressman Jordan announced his bid on Wednesday after California Representative Kevin McCarthy was removed from the office of Speaker of the House Tuesday afternoon.

Trump threw support behind the Ohio representative in a Truth Social post.

"Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C., representing Ohio's 4th Congressional District," the former president wrote of Jordan. "Respected by all, he is now Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee."

"As President, I had the honor of presenting Jim with our Country's highest civilian award, The Presidential Medal of Freedom," Trump continued. "So much is learned from sports, and Jim was a master!"

The former President mentioned Jordan's high school sports career in which he won State Championships all four years and garnered a 156-1 record. Jordan also became a two-time NCAA Division I Wrestling Champion.

"Jim has a masters degree in Education from Ohio State University & a Law Degree from Capital University," Trump added. "He is STRONG on Crime, Borders, our Military/Vets, & 2nd Amendment."

"Jim, his wife, Polly, & family are outstanding - He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!" Trump concluded.

Jordan was initially nominated for Speaker of the House by several House Republicans during January's historically contested Speaker vote, though McCarthy secured Speakership after 15 votes.

Other House Republicans who have endorsed Trump for Speaker of the House include Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and Texas Representative Troy Nehls. Trump initially said he would do whatever he could to help, though his first priority was securing the presidency in 2024.

On Thursday, several reports suggested Trump may be willing to become interim Speaker of the House for a few months.

“I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have so many friends in Congress,” Trump told Fox News Digital. “If they don’t get the vote, they have asked me if I would consider taking the speakership until they get somebody longer-term, because I am running for president.”

“They have asked me if I would take it for a short period of time for the party, until they come to a conclusion—I’m not doing it because I want to—I will do it if necessary, should they not be able to make their decision,” Trump said.

Jordan sent a letter to House Republicans on Wednesday announcing his bid for Speakership.

“We are at a critical crossroad in our nation’s history,” Jordan wrote. “Now is the time for our Republican conference to come together to keep our promises to Americans.”

“I respectfully ask for your support for Speaker of the House of Representatives,” he added.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise also announced his bid for Speaker on Wednesday.
