Former President Donald Trump, who was impeached twice in a Democrat-controlled House of Representatives, has commented on a Republican-proposed impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden, saying he never had an inquiry.
Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy has expressed Congress' intent to hold an impeachment inquiry regarding Biden's alleged corrupt business dealings.
"I NEVER HAD AN IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY," the former President said. "I HAD AN IMPEACHMENT, WHICH I WON!"
"IT WAS STARTED IMMEDIATELY," he continued. "NO MEETINGS, NO STUDY, NO DELAYS. THE LUNATIC FASCHISTS & MARXISTS PLAY THE GAME DIFFERENTLY."
"THEY ARE OUT TO DESTROY AMERICA. MAGA!"
“I haven’t seen an administration act this way at the same time as Nixon did by withholding information,” McCarthy said in late July, comparing the Biden administration’s alleged business dealings to former president Richard Nixon. “If they do not provide the information we need, then we would go to an impeachment inquiry.”
Texas representative Chip Roy similarly expressed concern over Biden’s alleged corruption, saying, “House Republicans should hold anyone in the Biden Administration accountable for the corruption and blatant weaponization of government agencies in order to serve a political end.”
“The impeachment inquiry will show the public even more information,” Georgia representative Marjorie Taylor Greene told the outlet Tuesday adding she believed the inquiry is “really important.”
“It will help get those Republican members that we have to the point where they will be there for impeachment,” she said. “It also gives the House more power behind our subpoenas.”
Earlier this month, Florida representative Greg Steube filed articles of impeachment against President Biden for high crimes and misdemeanors.
“It’s long past time to impeach Joe Biden,” said Steube. “He has undermined the integrity of his office, brought disrepute on the Presidency, betrayed his trust as President, and acted in a manner subversive of the rule of law and justice at the expense of America’s citizens. The evidence continues to mount by the day – the Biden Crime Family has personally profited off Joe’s government positions through bribery, threats, and fraud. Joe Biden must not be allowed to continue to sit in the White House, selling out our country.”
According to Steub's articles of impeachment, Biden is accused of bribery, Hobbs Act extortion, and honest services fraud during his time as Vice President in the Obama administration between 2009 and 2017, along with obstruction of justice.
Trump first faced impeachment in 2019 over alleged abuse of power and obstruction of Congress involving his communication with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy over a call to seek information on then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's alleged business dealings in the country.
The former President faced a second impeachment a week before leaving office in January 2021 for "incitement of insurrection" regarding his involvement in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6 earlier in the month.
During both impeachment attempts, Trump was impeached in the then-Democrat-controlled House, though the Senate subsequently found the former President "not guilty."
