Former President Donald Trump has called for Vice President Kamala Harris to be impeached over the border crisis.
Harris visited the border in Arizona on Friday. She has long faced criticism from the right for neglecting the border after being named the White House's "Border Czar."
Trump blasted the Democrat presidential nominee in a post to Truth Social over the weekend, declaring that the surge of illegal migrants under the current administration is the "biggest crime story of our time."
"Kamala’s Illegal Migrants. It’s the biggest crime story of our time. She should resign or be IMPEACHED!" Trump wrote in the post on Saturday.
Trump also took aim at Harris over the border during a campaign rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Sunday.
The Republican presidential nominee asserted that “hundreds of people have been murdered because of her action at the border, and thousands more will follow in rapid succession. She should be impeached and prosecuted for her actions.”
Harris, for her part, claimed that Trump "did nothing to fix our broken immigration system" during his presidency.
“In the four years that Donald Trump was president, he did nothing to fix our broken immigration system. He did not solve the shortage of immigration judges,” Harris said while visiting the border. “He did not solve the shortage of border agents. He did not create lawful pathways into our nation. He did nothing to address an outdated asylum system, and did not work with other governments in our hemisphere to deal with what clearly is also a regional challenge.”
While in the White House, Trump enacted the "Remain in Mexico" policy, which returned asylum seekers to Mexico until their court dates in the United States.
The Department of Homeland Security estimated that 68,000 migrants were returned to Mexico under the policy.
The policy was overturned by President Joe Biden almost immediately after he took office.
During a rally in Nevada on Sunday, Harris called on Trump to agree to debate her a second time.
“In two days, I know we will cheer on Coach Walz when he debates JD Vance. But listen, also, their debate should not be the last word,” Harris told the Las Vegas crowd.
“I’m trying to debate Donald Trump again. I think he should debate again. The American people have a right to hear us discuss the issues. And as you say here in Las Vegas, I’m all in. I’m all in, even if my opponent is ready to fold,” Harris added.
Trump has said that he is not willing to do a second debate.
