Texas Senator Ted Cruz celebrated the spirit of American patriots standing up to Red Coats, Nazis and "space aliens" on the Fourth of July.
In a late tweet on Sunday, Senator Cruz shared a clip of a speech by President Thomas J. Whitmore, played by Bill Pullman, from the 1996 action movie Independence Day."On this Fourth of July, we reflect on the incredible spirit of American patriots. Whether it's standing up to Red Coats or Nazis—or even space aliens —Americans never surrender, never stop fighting for freedom. Happy Independence Day!" Cruz wrote, complete with a pair of alien emojis.
"We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests," Whitmore says in the clip, as troops prepared to battle aliens on July 4.
Cruz also shared a clip from the 1970 film Patton, in which George C. Scott plays the military leader delivering a speech to American troops.
"Another classic: Patton's 3rd Army address. If you haven't watched George C. Scott's rendition, WATCH," Cruz tweeted alongside the clip on Sunday. "I used to watch this video every time the night before I had a Supreme Court argument. Happy Fourth!!" Cruz wrote in his tweet, with an American flag emoji.
Aliens have been a subject of extra media fascination for the past several months, following the Office of the Director of National Intelligence releasing its Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena report.
The Hill reports that the DNI release "analyzes 144 reports of UAPs, what the government calls UFOs, being sighted by military personnel between 2004 and 2021. Eighty of the reports referred to objects that were tracked by multiple sensors. Twenty-one of the reports describe 18 incidents in which the objects displayed unusual flight characteristics."
“Some UAP appeared to remain stationary in winds aloft, move against the wind, maneuver abruptly, or move at considerable speed, without discernable means of propulsion," the DNI report states. "In a small number of cases, military aircraft systems processed radio frequency (RF) energy associated with UAP sightings.”
