Sex Offender Arrested for Threatening to Kill Trump During Arizona Visit

A sex offender has been arrested for threatening to kill former President Donald Trump during his visit to Arizona.

Ronald Syvrud, 66, was arrested on Thursday by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest came just before Trump was set to visit the U.S.-Mexico border in Cochise County later that day.

Syvrud was already wanted on outstanding warrants from the state of Wisconsin for Driving Under the Influence, Failure to Appear for DUI, and in Arizona for Hit and Run and Felony Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office also had an absconder hold for Syvrud failing to register as a sex offender.

Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, told NewsNation that the threats were made on social media, but did not provide addtional details.

Law enforcement had been searching for Syvrud as an “investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate.” He was taken into custody without incident,

The threats came just six weeks after Trump was shot in the ear in a failed assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. One rally goer who was standing behind the president was shot and killed and two others were injured.

The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was fatally shot by a counter sniper.

While in Arizona, Trump abruptly ended an interview with NewsNation after security said that they were standing somewhere unsafe.

“Can I tell you something? We’re in danger standing here talking,” Trump said during the interview. “So let’s not talk any longer.”

“(Security) doesn’t want me standing here. They don’t want you standing here either.”
