Senator Lindsey Graham has warned that former President Donald Trump being arrested could "blow up our country."
If Trump is charged, he will be the first former president in US history to ever be arrested after leaving office. He is also the current leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
The senator expressed his concern about the situation during a Tuesday appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is reportedly working to indict former President Donald Trump over a $130,000 “hush money” payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016 over an alleged sexual encounter that the two had in 2006.
“You’ve had the prosecutor before Bragg, [Cyrus] Vance [Jr.], look at the case and pass on it. You had the U.S. attorney in New York say I’m not going to do it federally,” Graham said of the case.
Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to charges over the payment in 2018 and was sentenced to three years in prison.
In July 2019, federal prosecutors determined that no additional people would be charged alongside Cohen.
Graham said that he believes Bragg is facing political pressure to charge the former president.
“One of the guys in the D.A.’s office wrote a book very critical of Vance. ‘You should have prosecuted Trump, you let him off.’ And Bragg feels that pressure,” he said.
Graham also noted as many Republicans have in recent days, that Bragg is a “George Soros-backed prosecutor.” The far-left billionaire's Color of Change PAC had pledged a million dollars to his campaign for the position.
“The guy is yielding to the political pressure generated by the former prosecutor,” Graham continued. “This is a case without merit, in my view.”
“Donald Trump will be the only person in the history of New York prosecuted under this theory,” he said.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, an unnamed source told them that Trump will be indicted on Wednesday, and arrangements will be made for him to be arraigned next week.
“There will be no arraignment this week,” the source told the Daily Mail on Tuesday.
The Mail reports that “the former president, who is currently in Florida, is expected to be formally charged tomorrow, after which the Manhattan District Attorney’s office will reach out to Trump and his Secret Service detail to make arrangements for his surrender.”
After being flown to New York, he will be fingerprinted, arrested, and a mug shot will be taken.
Trump has called for protests and for people to "take this nation back" in the event of his arrest.
