"When Donald Trump was president, America was safe, strong, and prosperous," Cotton said. "With Joe Biden as president, everything has gone to hell: families can’t afford groceries, our border is wide open to a full-blown invasion, and our enemies are starting wars everywhere."Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton has endorsed former President Donald Trump for re-election.
Cotton made his endorsement in a Wednesday statement to Fox News Digital.
"I endorse President Trump and I look forward to working with him to win back the White House and the Senate so we can help hardworking Arkansans suffering from Joe Biden’s disastrous policies,” he added.
"It's time to get our country back on track," Cotton said.
Trump and the Arkansas senator previously worked on immigration policy and border security during the former President's time in office. Trump lauded the Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy (RAISE) Act introduced by Cotton and then-Sen. David Perdue in 2017.
The legislation sought to overhaul legal immigration into the country by implementing a merit-based system that reduced the amount of green cards issued in America from 1 million to 500,000 per year. The bill, which failed to pass, also aimed to prioritize immigrants entering the country based on skills they could provide in an effort to safeguard American jobs. Cotton joins over 100 members of Congress and the Senate in endorsing Trump, including Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, and Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, among others. Trump has also received endorsements from seven governors, including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, and Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who served as Trump's White House Press Secretary from 2017 until 2019. Other notable figures who have endorsed Trump for re-election include entrepreneur Robert Kiyosaki of the Rich Dad Company, rapper Waka Flocka Flame, country artist and lead vocalist of rock band Staind, Aaron Lewis, and professional golfer John Daly. Yesterday, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise threw support behind Trump in his bid for a second term in office. "I am proud to endorse Donald Trump for President in 2024," Scalise wrote in an X post. "I look forward to working with President Trump and a Republican House and Senate to fight for those families who are struggling under the weight of Biden's failed policies."
Trump leads runner up GOP candidates Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley by 51.3 points, according to RealClearPolitics. DeSantis and Haley lead entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy by 7 points.
In a potential rematch, the polling aggregator shows Trump leading President Biden by 2.3 points.
