Florida Rep. Cory Mills, a Republican, rescued ten American volunteers from Haiti on Monday evening.
The congressman said that the Biden administration had " deserted " the Americans.
"I am proud to report that my team and I were successful in evacuating and rescuing a trapped, and at risk group of Americans from ‘Have Faith Orphanage’ in Haiti last night," Mills wrote in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. "This recent mission reiterates a disturbing reality that under President Biden’s leadership American lives are continually jeopardized. I have conducted rescue/ evacs of Americans multiple times when Joe Biden has deserted them. There’s a clear pattern of abandonment!" I am proud to report that my team and I were successful in evacuating and rescuing a trapped, and at risk group of Americans from ‘Have Faith Orphanage’ in Haiti last night.

Mills pointed out that he had previously traveled to Afghanistan in 2021 and Israel in 2023 to bring home stranded Americans.
"Americans at home and abroad are more unsafe under Biden than ever before," Mills continued. "We need President Trump back in the White House as the world can’t afford 4 more years of Biden’s failed administration."
While not known for being safe, Haiti has become even more dangerous in recent weeks as armed gangs have taken over the nation's capital, Port au Prince. The international airport and port have also been under siege.
Additionally, the gangs have released over 4,000 prisoners from Haiti's two largest prisons. I am back on American soil. Thank you to all have supported us during this difficult week. My wife and I are safe tonight. Many Americans, Canadians, and others who are still stuck are not. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/nzbQDWAGtI

Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry has caved to the demands of the gangs and resigned his post.
The State Department urged Americans to leave the island, but it is now nearly impossible.
"At this time, the U.S. Embassy is not able to facilitate air travel for private citizens. U.S. citizens are advised to regularly monitor our webpage for Alerts, which may include updates on options to depart Haiti," the State Department said in its advisory. We also recommend consulting with commercial carriers who operate flights into and out of Haiti and travel agencies. Private carriers and many travel agencies provide timely information on available options to depart the country."
After being alerted to the stranded American orphanage volunteers, Mills, who served with the Army's 82 Airborne Division and as a defense contractor, began organizing a rescue mission.
According to a report from the Detroit News, Mills secured a helicopter and pilot who flew in from the Dominican Republic and landed near the orphanage. They got the group to safety by landing back in the Dominican Republic after the rescue.
The operation was done overnight, hoping many of the gang members would be asleep.
