From January through November 2023, government was ranked America’s top problem. Now, immigration has surpassed government as America’s greatest problem, according to new Gallup survey data. Immigration is now more of a concern for Americans than the economy, inflation, poverty, race relations, crime, federal budget deficits, foreign aid, and healthcare. Also, significantly more Americans cite immigration as the most important problem facing the U.S. (28 percent) than did a month ago (20 percent), signaling growing concern sweeping the country. The new data comes as congressional deliberations over immigration and border security legislation have taken center stage, with critics decrying proposed measures as tantamount to a mass amnesty initiative. Gallup’s survey also reveals a record-high number of U.S. adults (55 percent) say that “large numbers of immigrants entering the United States illegally” is a “critical threat” to the U.S. The prior high was 50 percent in 2004. Nearly 7.3 million illegal aliens have illegally crossed the U.S. southern border since President Joe Biden took office, a number greater than the the population of 36 U.S. states, according to recent analysis. During his first 100 days in office, Biden took 94 executive actions that ultimately fueled the current border crisis, according to the Republican National Committee. On Feb. 27, Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol Jason Owens said that over the past three days, agents working throughout the southwest border sector have apprehended 11 individuals with violent criminal histories, including “child molestation, aggravated assault, rape, murder, and firearms trafficking. As the United States hurtles toward yet another contentious election cycle, one issue is proving to be a unifying issue: illegal migration.

In recent days, Border Patrol agents have also intercepted multiple vehicles cloned to look like official border patrol vehicles. The vans were used for human smuggling, Owens said.
Last year, federal authorities warned that the porous southern border could be exploited by terrorist networks who may attempt to carry out an attack on U.S. soil. Over the past two years, as illegal aliens overwhelmed small border cities, impacted jurisdictions began busing and flying migrants to cities and states that once considered themselves to be “sanctuary” areas, nearly exclusively run by Democrats. The surge strained local resources and crippled the ability of local officials to adequately provide for their own residents. Highlighting the severity of the recent surge in illegal migration, five Democrat mayors recently petitioned Biden for $5 billion in funding to address the crisis.
