Sen. Rand Paul performed the Heimlich maneuver on Sen. Joni Ernst when she began choking on food during the Senate lunch on Thursday.
Sen. Ernst is "ok," according to Politico congressional bureau chief Burgess Everett.
Ernst also used the near-death experience to crack a joke about "woke" policies.
"Whoa: Rand Paul used the Heimlich maneuver on Joni Ernst at Senate lunch today, she was choking on some food, per attendees. She’s OK, senators say," Everett posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Paul has not yet responded to Ernst's post.
