One In Five Currently Sheltered By The City Are 'Asylum Seekers' With Over 17,000 Arriving Since April

NYC Declares State Of Emergency Over Illegal Immigrants Sent From Southern Border States

On Friday New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared a state of emergency over the arrival of illegal immigrants sent from the souther border.

"My fellow New Yorkers we are in a crisis situation," Mayor Adams declared on Friday, citing more than 61,000 people were currently in the city's sheltered system. One out of five are asylum seekers that have been bussed into the city from the southern border.

"This is a humanitarian crisis that started with violence and instability in South America and is being accelerated by American political dynamics," Adams continued. "Thousands of asylum seekers have been bused into New York City and simply dropped off, without notice, coordination, or care — and more are arriving every day.”

Adams further citied more than 17,000 illegal immigrants had been bussed into the city since April. Five to six busses were reportedly arriving daily since September, including nine total busses arriving in the city on Thursday.

"This crisis is not of our own making but one that will affect everyone in this city, now and in the months ahead," he said. "New Yorkers deserve to know why this is happening and what we plan to do."

A Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson reportedly said New York City had contacted the company about employing cruise ships to temporarily house illegal immigrants though a deal had not been made as of Friday, Fox News Digital reported.

"The chartering of cruise ships to companies, government entities and other organizations for various uses is a standard business practice across our industry," said the spokesperson. "While we can confirm that New York City has approached us about a potential charter of a cruise vessel, no agreement has been reached and we cannot speculate about the outcome of any ongoing business discussions."

Republican Governors Ron DeSantis, Greg Abbott and Doug Ducey have collectively moved to bus illegal immigrants to "sanctuary" Democratic cities from their respective states in protest of lax border policies and "open borders" rhetoric by Democrats and the Biden administration alike. DeSantis sent 50 Venezuelan migrants on two airplanes to Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, according to Martha's Vineyard Times.

Late last month, Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi criticized DeSantis and other Republican Governors sending illegal immigrants to "sanctuary" cities, stating migrants were needed in southern border states to "pick the crops."

"We have a responsibility to secure our border. We also have a responsibility to recognize the importance of newcomers to our nation. Right now, the best thing that we can do for our economy is to have comprehensive immigration reform,” said the Speaker of the House. "We have a shortage of workers in our country. In Florida, some of the farmers and the growers are saying, ‘Why are you shipping these immigrants up North? We need them to pick the crops down here.'”
