Tech mogul and X owner Elon Musk says a Los Angeles, California school taught his son Marxism and encouraged him to identify as transgender.
The revelation comes from author Walter Isaacson's new biography Elon Musk, which speculates Musk's experience with his son inspired him to purchase X, then Twitter.
An excerpt from Isaacson's new biography was released in a Thursday Wall Street Journal essay from the author.
“Musk’s swelling concern with the dangers of what he called the ‘woke mind virus’ that he believed was infecting America," Isaacson writes noting Musk's October 2022 purchase of X, then Twitter. "Musk’s anti-woke sentiments were partly triggered by the decision of his oldest child, Xavier, then 16, to transition."
“Hey, I’m transgender, and my name is now Jenna,” reads a text from Musk's son informing the wife of Musk's brother in the essay. “Don’t tell my dad.”
“Unless the woke mind virus, which is fundamentally anti-science, anti-merit, and anti-human in general, is stopped, civilization will never become multiplanetary,” Musk told the author.
Musk reportedly became "sanguine" over his son's transgender identity, though he lost contact with his child after his son became a "fervent Marxist."
"[Xavier] went beyond socialism to being a full communist and thinking that anyone rich is evil,” Musk says adding losing contact with his son was more painful than the death of his firstborn child Nevada. "I’ve made many overtures, but [Xavier] doesn’t want to spend time with me."
The tech mogul reportedly blamed his child assuming a transgender identity and adopting a Marxist philosophy on Crossroads School in Los Angeles.
"Twitter, he felt, had become infected by a similar mindset that suppressed right-wing and anti-establishment voices," Isaacson wrote of Musk's decision to purchase the platform.
Musk has previously criticized Marxism and public education regarding his son's adoption of a transgender identity.
In late 2021, Musk shared a seemingly cryptic post on Twitter.
"traceroute woke_mind_virus."
“It’s full-on communism . . . and a general sentiment that if you’re rich, you’re evil,” said Musk in an October 2022 interview with the Financial Times. “It [the relationship] may change, but I have very good relationships with all the others [children]. Can’t win them all.”
During the interview, the tech mogul was asked about his December 2021 "traceroute" post.
“If you want to figure out a path to a particular server, or domain, you’d say ‘traceroute,’ or in Windows, ‘TRACERT,’ that would show you the path to a particular source server, either an IP address or domain name, and it would show you basically all the hops that it goes through, and the latency between each hop,” Musk said. “So traceroute would be like, where did it come from? Where did the virus come from? What is its origin?”
“[Wokeness] is a prevalent mind virus, and arguably one of the biggest threats to modern civilization,” Musk continued, later adding: “At its heart, wokeness is divisive, exclusionary, and hateful. It basically gives mean people a reason, it gives them a shield to be mean and cruel, armored in false virtue.”
Isaacson's book is scheduled for release on Sept. 12.
