NATO, EU Actively Preparing For War With Russia, Hungarian PM Orbán Says

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is warning that the world is moving toward catastrophe as NATO and the European Union have entered the intermediate stages of preparations for open war with Russia.

In remarks made to his own state media, Kossuth Radio, on May 31, Orbán says that each week he sees more signs the West is prepping for military action.

“Going to war does not happen in one step,” he said, according to a translation by Russian state news agency TASS. "There are three stages: discussion, preparation and destruction. Now we are finishing the discussion and we are in the preparation stage. We are inches away from destruction.”

Orbán explained that two recent developments indicate that Europe is becoming increasingly involved in the Ukraine war and may soon become directly involved.

First, “there were talks between France and Ukraine about allowing French military instructors to go to Ukraine" to train Ukrainian soldiers, Orbán said.

He added that if the French proceed, it will mark a new level of involvement by the West in the conflict.

Second, he noted the possibility of Western weapons being used to attack targets within Russian territory.

"More and more people are saying that the weapons supplied by the West should be used not only for defense, but also for attack," Orbán said. "Without NATO, Ukraine would not be able to shell Russian territory, but it can, and thus we are taking another step in the process of involvement in the war.”

Orbán’s suspicions are not without merit. His remarks come on the heels of reports that President Joe Biden has quietly authorized Ukraine to use U.S. weaponry in direct attacks inside Russian territory.

“The president recently directed his team to ensure that Ukraine is able to use U.S.-supplied weapons for counter-fire purposes in the Kharkiv region so Ukraine can hit back against Russian forces that are attacking them or preparing to attack them,” a U.S. official said in a statement quoted by The New York Times. “Our policy with respect to prohibiting the use of ATACMS or long-range strikes inside of Russia has not changed,” the statement added, referencing an artillery system with the capacity to hit deep into Russian territory.

The same day Orbán delivered his remarks, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, warned that Moscow is not bluffing about the use of tactical nuclear weapons, stressing that “nobody today can rule out the conflict’s transition” to nuclear war.

"Russia regards all long-range weapons used by Ukraine as already being directly controlled by servicemen from NATO countries. This is no military assistance, this is participation in a war against us," Medvedev said. "And such actions could well become a casus belli (an act that provokes a war)."

Medvedev added, “This is, alas, neither intimidation nor bluffing,” starkly cautioning that “the current military conflict with the West is developing according to the worst possible scenario. There is a constant escalation when it comes to the firepower of NATO weapons being used. Therefore, nobody today can rule out the conflict's transition to its final stage.”
