Tech mogul Elon Musk said X, formerly known as Twitter, will provide legal funds for users experiencing professional repercussions from employers regarding their engagement on the platform.
"If you were unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform, we will fund your legal bills," Musk wrote.
"No limit," he added. "Please let us know."
The X owner said the outlet will also seek lawfare against boards of directors of companies punishing employees.
Libs of TikTok noted former Limited Run Games employee Kara Lynne was fired for following their account earlier this year.
Musk inquired about the story's legitimacy, to which Lynne, who currently works for YouTuber and writer Eric D. July's comic book company Rippaverse, agreed noting the situation was "slightly more complicated than a headline."
"It was lead [sic] by someone who dug through my tweets and found a single one from 2016 regarding hesitation of people taking advantage of the bathroom discussion," she wrote detailing her ordeal. "Started a witch hunt and I was fired the same day."
"Great, let's have at it!" Musk responded.
Last week, X filed a lawsuit against British non-profit Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) claiming the organization unlawfully accessed private data and "cherry-picked" posts attempting to frame a rise in hate speech on the platform following Musk's late-2022 acquisition of the platform.
The lawsuit claims CCDH constructed a "scare campaign to drive away advertisers from the X platform" by publishing "hate speech" reports.
“CCDH has done this by engaging in a series of unlawful acts designed to improperly gain access to protected X Corp. data, needed by CCDH so that it could cherry-pick from the hundreds of millions of posts made each day on X and falsely claim it had statistical support showing the platform is overwhelmed with harmful content,” the lawsuit reads. "It did so out of context in public reports and articles it prepared to make it appear as if X is overwhelmed by harmful content, and then used that contrived narrative to call for companies to stop advertising on X."
“The Center for Countering Digital Hate’s research shows that hate and disinformation is spreading like wildfire on the platform under Musk’s ownership and this lawsuit is a direct attempt to silence those efforts,” CCDH founder and chief executive Imran Ahmed told NBC News. “Musk is trying to ‘shoot the messenger’ who highlights the toxic content on his platform rather than deal with the toxic environment he’s created.”
