Michael Whatley and Lara Trump Unanimously Elected as New RNC Leaders

Michael Whatley and Lara Trump have been unanimously elected as the new chair and co-chair of the Republican National Committee.

Members of the RNC gathered in Houston, Texas, on Friday to vote for new leadership to replace outgoing Republican National Chair Ronna McDaniel.

As co-chair, Lara Trump will largely focus on fundraising efforts. She also pledged to place a heavy focus on election integrity.

"As co-Chair, I will be laser-focused on protecting our elections, ensuring that the RNC's money is spent with maximum impact, and building out key capabilities to ensure that we win close races on the margins," said Lara, the former president's daughter-in-law, during her acceptance speech. "Everything I do at this committee will have one focus: re-electing Donald Trump, flipping the Senate, and expanding the House this November."

Whatley previously served as the state chair of the North Carolina Republican Party. He was endorsed by former President Donald Trump last month.

"I think my friend Michael Whatley should be the RNC’s next leader," Trump said in a statement. “Michael has been with me from the beginning, has done a great job in his home state of North Carolina, and is committed to election integrity, which we must have to keep fraud out of our election so it can’t be stolen."

USA Today reports:

In his acceptance speech, Whatley said his priorities are "getting out the vote" and "protecting the ballot," with legal action if necessary.

Whatley pledged to work hard not only for Trump, but also to "flip the Senate" to GOP control and "expand our majority" in the House of Representatives.

McDaniel also spoke to the gathered RNC members, promising, "I will do everything possible to re-elect Pres Trump in November.

"I ask all of you out there to come in and join me in supporting our future president as well," McDaniel continued. "We need you."
