Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy confirmed the House would begin the impeachment inquiry process of President Joe Biden.
During a press conference, the Speaker sparred with a reporter who questioned McCarthy's previous statement regarding speculation if Biden's corruption was "rising to the level of impeachment inquiry."
"I floated the idea of impeachment," McCarthy told the reporter. "I said 'impeachment inquiry.' There's a big difference."
McCarthy detailed two IRS agents who have spoken out on the President’s alleged corrupt dealings saying “the Biden family has been treated differently.” The Speaker also recounted another individual who informed the FBI that Biden had been bribed.
"We then found that ... President Biden, while running for office, made a couple claims," McCarthy said, reciting Biden's previous claim he had never spoken to son Hunter Biden about his business dealings. "He said, 'My family has not taken one dime from China.'"
The Speaker detailed Biden had created over 20 shell companies after assuming office as vice president in 2009 under former President Barack Obama. McCarthy also revealed 16 out of 17 payments from Romania were received during his time as vice president.
"We now found that money did come from China," he continued. "We now found that the President has changed what he said."
McCarthy said there was still confusion surrounding federal prosecutor David Weiss and attorney general Merrick Garland along with others in meetings regarding Biden's investigation.
"It's contradicting based on what the IRS agents said," McCarthy said, adding the IRS agents had asked questions, took notes, and emailed people involved in the meeting. "If you're any member of Congress, this is not saying impeachment. This is not anything but 'we need to investigate.'"
The Speaker reiterated his remark regarding impeachment inquiry by noting Congress needed to investigate and obtain documents.
"I haven't seen an administration act this way at the same time as Nixon did by withholding information," he said of his comparison to the Biden administration's alleged business dealings to former president Richard Nixon. "If they do not provide the information we need, then we would go to an impeachment inquiry."
McCarthy detailed an impeachment inquiry was simply an investigation conducted by Congress.
Several Republican House members have similarly called for Congress to seek impeachment of Biden following the revelation from one of the Biden families partners, Devon Archer, who alleged Hunter and his father were frequently on the phone with foreign business associates.
“House Republicans should initiate impeachment proceedings against President Biden,” Rep. Jim Banks told the New York Post. “Joe Biden was trading his personal influence to enrich himself and his family and must be held accountable for selling out America.”
New York representative Claudia Tenney said President Biden “committed crimes in plain sight.”
“Yet the [Biden Department of Justice] is covering up for his corruption,” she continued. “It’s time for impeachment.”
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has maintained the President was not involved in son Hunter’s business dealings.
“The answer remains the same. The president was never in business with his son. I just don’t have anything else to add,” Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing per the Post.
