Marianne Williamson Calls For New Primary To Replace Biden As Presumptive Nominee

Author and presidential candidate Marianne Williamson called for a new primary to be held to replace President Joe Biden as the presumptive Democratic nominee.

On Saturday, Williamson warned former President Donald Trump's chances at re-election were increased every day Biden remained the presumptive Democratic nominee.

"The American people want to feel their government knows how to handle an emergency. Right now the Democratic Party needs to prove that we do," Williamson wrote in an X post. "Whoever needs to talk to the President or his family, they need to do so right now. Every day we wait we are ceding ground to Donald Trump."

Williamson then called for a "mini primary" election to be held by Democratic delegates.

"We need to recalibrate quickly. We need a mini primary - not a decision made by party elites but by the delegates themselves," she continued. "We need a truly democratic process and an open convention. There is nothing to fear about starting over; we still have 4 months before Election Day. The only thing to fear is delaying another day and then another day and then another day."

In a Sunday post, the author referenced France's recent snap election called on by President Emmanuel Macron in an effort to stymie challenger Marine Le Pen's National Rally Party from gaining power in their government.

"If France can do it we can do it," Williamson wrote.

In response to one X user claiming the Democratic Party has "gaslit" voters on the definition of democracy, Williamson called for a "mini primary" and "open convention" on Friday.

"That's not chaos or disorder," she wrote. "Yes it's messy, but that's a good thing! It's democracy..."

Williamson launched her presidential campaign in March 2023, though suspended her bid on Feb. 7 this year. However, in late-February, Williamson retracted her campaign's suspension and re-entered the primary after placing third in the Michigan Democratic primary. Williamson again suspended her campaign on June 11, though once again re-entered the campaign on July 2 after calls for Biden's withdrawal from the race emerged following his debate with Trump late last month.
