Man Arrested for Crashing Car into the Barricade Outside U.S. Capitol

A man has been arrested after crashing his vehicle into a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol on Thursday morning.

Kevin Simon, 28, was speeding north on Interstate 395 at about 7:45 a.m., exited at Washington Avenue SW, hit two cars, and kept driving, according to a report from NBC News.

He reportedly went down D Street SW, turned left, and smashed into a barricade at the intersection of South Capitol and D Streets.

During his arrest, police say that he was "acting delirious and combative." He was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Simon has been charged with reckless driving, resisting arrest, and leaving after a collision.

Circumstances surrounding the crash have not been revealed at this time.

Earlier this month, two people were arrested for "Unlawful Possession of a Machine Gun" after crashing a stolen vehicle into the barricade at the Capitol.

Ricardo L. Glass and Onosetale Okojie, both 20-years old, were arrested after police attempted to stop them on suspicion that the driver could be impaired.

The United States Capitol Police said in a press release at the time, "On Sunday, while on routine patrol at approximately 2:15 a.m., a USCP officer noticed a driver in a white Infiniti Q50 stopped along Massachusetts Avenue, NE, idling at a green traffic light by Union Station. Suspecting the driver could be impaired, the officer attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver then sped away and crashed into a Capitol Complex vehicle barricade near First Street and D Street, NE."

"A Glock handgun, which had a 22 round extended magazine, was found on the passenger side seat, near an additional magazine. Another Glock, which had the 'Giggle Switch,' was found in a flowerbed in the 100 block of C Street, NE," the Capitol Police press release said, explaining that a "Giggle Switch" can "turn the weapon into a machine gun."
