Los Angeles Homeowner Detained After Opening Fire on Four Armed Men Who Broke into His Home — Killing One

A Los Angeles man was handcuffed and taken in for questioning early Saturday morning after opening fire on four armed men who broke into his home — while his grandmother and toddler were inside.

The LAPD was called to the home in Granada Hills around 5 a.m. over a "hot prowl," or burglary while the homeowner is present.

"The officers’ preliminary investigation determined that approximately three to four armed males in their 20s entered the home with the intent to burglarize the location," LAPD officials said, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

A suspect pointed a weapon at the victim and while the suspects were inside the residence, the victim produced a firearm and a shooting occurred.

One of the attempted burglars was fatally shot by the homeowner.

The names of the homeowner and the deceased attempted burglar have not been released to the public at this time.

The surviving three suspects fled the scene, leaving a trail of blood. A black BMW sedan believed to be connected to the suspects has been found by law enforcement.

"It is believed that an additional suspect was injured during the incident due to a trail of blood located during the investigation," the LAPD said.

Burglaries have become an increasingly common occurrence in the area.

"The suspects messed with the wrong homeowner," one neighbor said.

The homeowner was brought to the Devonshire Community Police Station for questioning and released.
