Liz Cheney is once again hinting at a 2024 run, though it remains unclear who her base would be.
Cheney lost the Wyoming primary for her seat in Congress to conservative lawyer Harriet Hageman in 2023.
Speaking to Jake Tapper on CNN's “State of the Union” on Sunday, Cheney noted that she has not yet endorsed anyone for the 2024 election.
“I haven’t endorsed anybody in this presidential race, certainly would never support Donald Trump,” she said. “And we know what Donald Trump will do, because he’s telling us every day. And anybody who has spent any time overseas, who has spent any time studying the history of autocracies and of autocrats knows we have to listen to what Donald Trump’s saying.”
Tapper followed up, “Are you still considering it, or would you rule it out?”
“I haven’t made any decisions about it yet,” Cheney replied. “I’m going to do whatever is necessary to defeat Donald Trump.”
When asked if she would endorse President Joe Biden over Trump, Cheney said, “I’m not going to make any announcements or endorsements this morning.”“But the most important thing is to defeat Donald Trump, and I will do whatever, whatever it takes to do that.”
During the interview, Cheney also referred to former President Donald Trump as the "Putin wing of the Republican Party."
In December, Cheney said that if she enters the race, it will be as a third-party candidate — likely hoping to act as a spoiler against former President Donald Trump.
“Several years ago, I would not have contemplated a third-party run,” Cheney told The Washington Post while promoting her book. “I happen to think democracy is at risk at home, obviously, as a result of Donald Trump’s continued grip on the Republican Party, and I think democracy is at risk internationally as well.”
The Wyoming Republican Party voted to censure Cheney in February of 2021.
The state party later voted to no longer recognize her as a Republican at all. Liz Cheney , daughter of a war criminal responsible for over 1 million deaths in the phony Iraq war, is in the War Machine wing of the Republican Party https://t.co/AAvSg0KVup

On a national level, House Republicans removed her from her role as conference chair for her anti-Trump antics.
