Rapper Killer Mike was arrested during last night's 66th annual Grammy Awards ceremony.
Killer Mike won three awards at the event prior to his arrest.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said a male adult, later identified as the rapper whose given name is Michael Render, was detained as their suspect in a physical altercation call. Killer Mike was later arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery.
The Hollywood Reporter's Chris Gardner shared a video of Killer Mike being escorted out of the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles to his X account.
According to Gardner, who spoke with officials associated with the rapper, the incident was a "big nothing" and Killer Mike would likely be released soon.
Killer Mike reportedly became physically aggressive with a security officer outside the Crypto.com Arena prior to last night's Grammy Awards. The rapper was accused of allegedly "knocking down" a security officer after they did not move out of his way "quick enough," according to TMZ.
“The only thing that limits your age is not being truthful about your age or what you’re doing,” Killer Mike, 48, said backstage at the event, per ABC 7.
“At 20 years old, I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer,” he continued. “At 40, I started to live with the regrets and the things I’ve done. At 45, I started to rap about it. At 48, I stand here as a man full of empathy and sympathy for the things I’ve done.”
Among the three awards won by Killer Mike included Best Rap Album for his 2023 self-titled album Michael. He also won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for his track "Scientists & Engineers" off the same album.
"You can't tell me you get too old. You can't tell me it's too late. You can't tell me dreams [don't] come true," he said while accepting his award before repeating, "It is a sweep!"
No mention of the arrest has been made across Killer Mike's social media.
The rapper previously won a Grammy Award in 2003 for his appearance on Outkast's "The Whole World" from their 2001 album, Big Boi and Dre Present... Outkast.
In 2019, Killer Mike hosted Netflix's Trigger Warning With Killer Mike, which discussed issues for black Americans including drug usage, gangs, religion, and poverty.
The rapper notably supported Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020.
